How much PIP is a month

PIP is paid every four weeks, which makes 13 payments a year. Full PIP is £778.40 per payment and £10,119.20 a year. Divided by 12 for a monthly budget that is £843.27, but no payment is ever that amount, and at least one month a year has two payments in it.

Each rise from one row to the next matches the previous September's CPI inflation figure to within 5p, for all four rates. So the 2027/28 rates will follow the CPI figure for September 2026, which ONS publishes in October, unless the government chooses a different increase. The 2027/28 forecast works it through for every rate.

How the rate you get is decided

PIP is scored on how your condition affects you, activity by activity, in an assessment. Daily living and mobility are scored separately. At least 8 points in a part gets that part at the standard rate. At least 12 points gets the enhanced rate. The thresholds are in regulation 5 (daily living) and regulation 6 (mobility) of the PIP Regulations 2013. This page cannot tell you what you will score.

PIP and DLA pay the same rates

Disability Living Allowance, which PIP replaced for most working-age adults, uses the same figures. DLA's highest and middle care rates equal PIP's enhanced and standard daily living rates, and its higher and lower mobility rates equal PIP's enhanced and standard mobility rates. DLA has one extra: a lowest care rate, with no PIP equivalent. The DLA rates page has every DLA award.

Questions

How much is PIP a week in 2026/27?

The daily living part is £76.70 a week at the standard rate and £114.60 at the enhanced rate. The mobility part is £30.30 or £80.00. You can get one part or both, so the total runs from £30.30 to £194.60 a week.

How much is full PIP per month?

Full PIP, both parts at the enhanced rate, is £194.60 a week. It is paid every four weeks, so each payment is £778.40, 13 times a year. Spread over 12 months that is £843.27 a month, though no single payment is ever that amount.

Who qualifies for the enhanced rate of PIP?

PIP is scored in an assessment, separately for daily living and for mobility. A score of at least 8 points in a part gets that part at the standard rate, and at least 12 points gets the enhanced rate. The thresholds are set in regulations 5 and 6 of the PIP Regulations 2013.

When do PIP rates go up?

Every April, at the start of the tax year. Each rise since 2024/25 has matched the previous September's CPI inflation figure to within 5p, so the 2027/28 rates will follow the CPI figure for September 2026, unless the government decides on a different increase.

Is PIP taxable or means-tested?

Neither. gov.uk states that PIP is tax free and that the amount is not affected by your income or savings. You can get it while working. It does not count as income for income tax, so it never pushes you into a higher band.

Are PIP and DLA rates the same?

Yes, figure for figure. DLA's highest and middle care rates equal PIP's enhanced and standard daily living rates, and DLA's higher and lower mobility rates equal PIP's enhanced and standard mobility rates. DLA also has a lowest care rate, the same figure as PIP's standard mobility rate (£30.30 a week in 2026/27), with no PIP equivalent.

Provenance

How this is worked out

Rates come from DWP's benefit and pension rates 2026/27, checked against gov.uk's how much you'll get page on 11 October 2026. The two agree to the penny. Totals are added in whole pence, and the tables, the tool and the questions are generated from one file, so they cannot disagree. Tests pin every figure to the published rates and every total to arithmetic worked by hand.

This is a rates page, not advice. For help with a claim or an assessment, Citizens Advice and Turn2us both offer free guidance.
